I am a graduate student at Wayne State University pursuing my MLIS, and a freelance writer and editor. I am also a Mom and a step-Mom. As long as I am at it, I am a wife, friend, sister, daughter, niece, cousin, volunteer, runner, reader, gardener, baker, dirt-biker, dog-lover, tree-hugger… Well, where do you stop?
We are a blended family - my husband and I have five kids between us, ranging in age from 20 (college junior) to 6 (kindergartener). The oldest two are mine, my step-daughter is smack in the middle, and the youngest two are ours together.
Things have eased up a bit, with two of our minions off to college, but parenthood keeps challenging us in different ways. You’re never done, you know? They just need different things from you, when they get older. House? Still a mess. Menu? Still appalling. We’re just doing the best we can, like everybody else.
After twenty years of motherhood, and eight years of Life in the Blender, I know a thing or two about priorities. And diplomacy.
